2019 data reveals Click & Collect is top choice for South African shoppers

2019 was a bumper year for Click and Collect adoption in South Africa. More than 70% of South African online shoppers tried Click and Collect at least once as their delivery method in 2019 according to a global shopper report released by iVendi.

Pargo, the leading smart logistics company that brought Click and Collect to the South African market, confirms this trend. Pargo has seen an increased adoption of the convenient delivery method by both shoppers and e-tailers, leading to a massive 226% order growth in 2019.

Pargo’s 2019 delivery data suggests Click and Collect market share grew to 31%. This implies that on average 1 in 3 online shoppers used the convenient pickup service as their preferred delivery option, up from 1 in 5 shoppers a year earlier and 1 in 20 shoppers back in 2015 when the company was founded.

Not only did more online shoppers choose Click and Collect as a delivery method, Pargo was also able to realise an increase in companies offering the delivery service, including businesses like Loot.co.za, Clicks and Homechoice.

Never wait for the courier again

Click and Collect adoption in South Africa has steadily been rising over the last 5 years. Today on average 31% of shoppers prefer to collect their orders from a store instead of using traditional courier delivery. This percentage is 6 times higher than the 5% in 2015.

Asked for the main reason why shoppers prefer to click and collect, 68% of responders indicated that they didn’t have to wait at home all day for a courier. Other reasons were ‘a lack of trust in courier and postal services’ and 43% answered that they lived or worked in an area (township, office block or residential estate) inaccessible to couriers.

Another driver responsible for the increase of Click and Collect orders was the growth of Pargo’s network of collection points. Pargo’s network exceeded an astounding 2500 Pick-up Points in 2019 – making it the leading Pick-up Point solution in South Africa. On par with Pargo’s vision to create access for anybody in Africa, South Africa’s 18.4 million online shoppers now have convenient collection options that cover 87% of the nation’s postal codes.

Increased access to shoppers

South African retailers increasingly understand that Click and Collect has become a necessary delivery option for South Africans.

Loot.co.za, Clicks and Homechoice are just a few companies that have partnered with Pargo last year to make Click and Collect an important part of their delivery experience in 2020.

Among the many benefits of offering customers a convenient delivery method with extended collection hours and easy returns, businesses offering Click and Collect can increase their reach.

With 75% of the population living in areas that are more challenging to service by couriers and 37% of collections happening over weekends and in the evenings it’s clear that Pargo Pick-up Points allow online retailers to access an untapped market of online shoppers by simply integrating Click and Collect on their check out page.

Exceptional Experience

2019 saw a first for South Africa. Pargo introduced Instant Click and Collect. The service cuts out delivery time completely by making products instantly available for customers at Pick-up Points once they have confirmed their purchase online.

South Africans have jumped on this opportunity, with thousands of shoppers making use of the service every day.

The increased speed and overall exceptional experience have led to extremely happy customers. Pargo’s customer satisfaction sits at a consistent 4.8 rating on Google and Facebook. Reviews repeatedly mention: “fast delivery”, “convenient delivery”, “excellent service”, “easy collection”, “friendly service”, “constant communication”.

What’s next for Click and Collect and Pargo?

Pargo has committed to a string of successful ventures that will place them into new sectors. Their 2020 goals comprise of continuing to bring customers and businesses in Southern Africa the best Click and Collect and omnichannel service – opening up access to online shopping for all while allowing businesses to grow by reaching extended markets and audiences.
