Delivery 101: how to educate your customer

It’s no secret that approximately 70% of all shopping carts are abandoned at checkout. One of the top cited reasons for this is unforeseen delivery costs. Don’t leave your customers in the dark! A few minor tweaks to your website means your customer will have all the information they need, upfront, with no financial surprises waiting for them in that vital final stretch.
Absorb the cost
Consumers love nothing more than free shipping. Sure, you may not be able to absorb all the costs, but it’s worth offering free shipping for orders over a certain amount. There’s little more frustrating than spending a fair amount of money with a business and then still having to pay for delivery over and above that. Do the maths! It may well end up being beneficial in the long run: bigger baskets for free delivery, and more completed transactions.
Spell out the delivery deets
Never underestimate the value of an FAQ! Create a page on your website that clearly details all your delivery options: consider every possible question, and spell out every answer. Consider including the following information:
- Explain your shipping costs, where possible
- Detail the perks of your shipping options (i.e. the convenience of Pargo Click & Collect!)
- Include the tracking process once the parcel leaves your hands
- Explain how to go about returning the item if need be
Leave the technical jargon behind: speak to your customer in a language that they’ll clearly understand. Keep a tab on additional queries from customers and update your FAQs with any nuggets that you may have missed.
Shout it from the rooftops
FAQ done and dusted? Great. Now it’s time to spread the word:
- Add it to your website’s navigation bar
- Add it to your footer.
- Create social posts about your delivery options.
- Add it to the basket page
Wherever there’s an opportunity, shout about the delivery options that you provide.
